Jimmy “The Greek”

Picks of the Week

OK, so 1-1 last week, not bad, I didn’t see the Raiders win vs Chicago coming after being embarrassed the week before. After a pre-game fiasco in Dallas, the Eagles managed to get out of Big D with a spread-covering win for good ole Jimmy Boy. This week we have 2 games that will entertain and make for some good viewing so let’s get right to the picks.

OAKLAND @ NEW ENGLAND (-7.5) The Raiders have been decimated at HB by injuries, losing both Arian Foster and leading rusher Matt Forte in the win last week vs Chicago. Jeremy Hill looks to be the next in line but that is a significant drop off. Forte was finding his groove before being injured. No team has faced fewer rushes than the Patriots this season, mainly because teams have been trailing on the scoreboard by multiple possessions. Tom Brady will face a secondary that has a star in Aqib Talib and a burgeoning one in Marcus Peters. The problem is you need 4 very good CB’s to play Brady man to man. HB’s Jonathan Stewart and Eddie Lacy have taken turns trampling defenses on the ground and this spells big trouble for Oakland this week. I am giving away the 7.5 points for a lot of reasons…preparation, home field and team health.

Jimmy’s Pick- New England -7.5 (NE 29  OAK 16)

.

PHILADELPHIA @ CHICAGO (-5.5) This has historically been a one-sided match-up. The Eagles have struggled with a Bear defense that throws up more spider webs than a Black Widow. However, Cam Newton has found an antidote for zones lately in the form of WR Julio Jones who has been racking up yards and TD’s worthy of a player rated 97+ overall. Bad starts vs Chicago have historically killed Philly but the Eagles have cut way back on turnovers giving them a shot to settle into the game. Chicago has missed the combo of WR Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham Jr. but Beckham Jr. is back this week giving the passing game a boost. HB Lamar Miller is out so look for newly signed Latavius Murray and Davonte Freeman to share the load in the backfield. Chicago leads the VMFL in turnovers (11) in their first 4 games and had 12 penalties in their loss to Oakland and will have to be much more disciplined this week in thos 2 areas to win. I think they get it done and cover the spread at home this week.

Jimmy’s Pick- Chicago -5.5  (CHI 29  PHI  23)
