Jimmy “The Greek”

Picks of the Week

jimmygreek2-e1454530416637

Another perfect week for The Greek last week as the Eagles pulled one out in the last second to cover the spread. I can’t say I didn’t tell you so…but alas I can now after that hair-raising game. New England is just tough to beat right now, home or on the road, so until someone knocks the chip off their shoulder, it’s a wrap. However, this week a wrench has been thrown into the proceedings with a major injury.

NEW ENGLAND @ CHICAGO (-3.5) The Patriots will start their first game without Tom Brady under centre in 13 seasons next week when they travel to Chicago. The Brady consecutive games streak had reached an ungodly 170 games (He sat out 1 game in his career for rest purposes/safe keeping). This is the first time an undefeated team will be an underdog and a test to see just how much Brady’s success has been a product of his talent or the Belichick system. I am not sure Blake Bortles or newly signed Jimmy Garoppolo can deal with a Bear defense that is high on talent and ratings. Not even highly criticized Bear defensive coordinator McDowell should be able to get in the way of defensive success this week. However, the Bear offense leads the VMFL in turnovers, penalties, is last in Red Zone TD % and 4th down % which has all combined to conspire to this team’s 2-4 record to date. This is the ultimate matchup of high powered offense and undiscipline vs poise and discipline. The Bears get WR Odell Beckham Jr. back this week and I think his return puts the Bears over the top.

Jimmy’s Pick- Chicago -3.5  (CHI 26  NE 19)

.

OAKLAND @ DALLAS (+3.5) The Cowboys and Raiders are both hurting emotionally right now after a combined 8 losses in a row. Raiders QB Drew Brees has also struggled with the lowest completion % in the league at a paltry 53.8%, too many times forcing the ball into the middle of the defense. The Cowboys have yet to decide who their starting QB is, hanging on to old memories in the form of Tony Romo. It’s time to pass the torch to Luck and see what ya got I say. But I digress. Both teams have better run games than they know they have in Matt Forte and rookie David Johnson and it’s here that the game will be decided. The Raiders have the league’s lowest rated offensive line and will be without their best lineman in Brandon Scherff yet again this week. The Cowboys have an embarrassment of riches at the position and should be able to dominate, but the stick skills just haven’t matched up with that talent. This one is so hard to call but historically the Raiders have tormented Dallas by stealing more games late than Pete Sheehan at the Burger King Drive-thru. I think the Raiders get back on track this week.

Jimmy’s Pick- Oakland -3.5  (OAK 29  DAL 24)
